Santiniketan, Bakreswar, Tarapith, Nalhati


This is a tour circuit not very far from Kolkatra and around 3 hour drive by rail or road. Santiniketan is best known for the creations of Kabi Guru Rabindranath Tagore who founded Biswabharati which is now a famous university. The campus comprises of museums. Class rooms. Hostels, prayer room and houses like Kala Bhavan, Patha Bhavan,Sangeet Bhavan, Amar Kutir, Tagore’s Ashram, Chhatimtala etc. This is a place where one can get peace in mind and also get to see the sculpture art work of Ram Kinkar Baij and paintings of Benode Behari Mukherjee, KG Subramanyan and Nanda Lal Bose.
You can visit the tribe inhabited Khoai and its open Mela in the evening to get to near the nature and the tribes by the side of Kopai river.

One can visit Kankali Tala, another Sati Pith and Lavpur, the birthplace place of famous author Tara Sankar Bandopadhyay.

Bakreswar is one of the 51 Sati Piths and about 1 hour drive from Santiniketan. It is famous for the hot spring and the temple.

Tarapith is another vibrant place of worship where one often visit Maa Tara, the goddess. Tarapith is also famous for the great saint Bama Khepa. The place is around 60 km from Bakreswar and takes around 1.15 hour time. You can also visit Nalhati to see another Sati Pith Nalateswari temple which is around 45 mts drive from Tarapith. A total of 4 to 5 days tours will give you leisure and pleasure both.
